Sleepover at Kinsky

Wednesday night, the day after his party, Noah got to spend the night in kindergarten to celebrate his promotion to 1st grade.  It is a rite of passage that all the kids have gotten to participate in, and I am so glad that even though the teacher who started it retired, the new ones have kept it up as well.  He would have been crushed not to have the honor and privilege. 🙂

I drove him up to school just before dinner time.  All the moms were there, helping the kids set up their beds.  As soon as we walked in, two of his best friends ran up and grabbed his arms, pulling him to the spot they had staked out for their group. They were off in the “Bauecke” of the kindergarten room.  Notice all the wooden blocks in the corner?  They love to stack them as high as possible, then knock them all down with a giant boom.  Typical boys. 🙂

After the beds were set up, all the stuffed animals had to say hello.I love the total innocence and sweetness of this photo.  Two little boys feeling free to cuddle and do imaginative play with their stuffed dogs.  Awwww!!!

The best part about sleeping on the floor is that you don’t get in trouble for jumping on your bed!He was obviously doing fine and didn’t need me to hang around any longer.  I kissed him goodbye, and left him to it.  They had dinner that they helped cook themselves in the little kitchen attached to the kindergarten, then they got to play outside for a bit.  She read them a goodnight story and played some relaxing, calming music to help them get to sleep.

The next morning, the first year kindergarteners joined them for breakfast, and then they had regular school.  I came to pick up his sleeping stuff in the morning, however, so he wouldn’t have to try and lug it home on the school bus. 🙂  He was so happy when I saw him.  What a special way to celebrate getting older.
