Sarah’s School Slumber Party

So, Noah’s Kindergarten party was on Wednesday.  On Thursday, Sarah had her big slumber/goodbye party at school.  Her class is moving on to the 4th grade, and leaving Frau Nicollier after three years together.  Sarah has absolutely loved her as a teacher, and we are so glad that Noah gets her as well.

It was quite the goodbye festival.  First, the kids only had actual school until 11 in the morning.  Then they went out into the forest, where they played, grilled lunch over a fire (although Sarah had sandwiches instead) and played some more.  They got back to the school just as I arrived to help cook dinner for the hungry crew.  I could for sure tell that Sarah had a good time. She was covered in dirt.  Her shoes were a solid brown, there were brown streaks up both arms, and all over face.  There was even dirt and leaves in her hair.  And apparently, she had  cleaned herself up already! 🙂

I was expecting to actually cook the spaghetti sauce myself, but instead I supervised the kids while they chopped up all the vegetables to throw in the prepared sauce.  I did cook the noodles, though. haha

Frau Nicollier was worried, at first, that we had cooked way too much spaghetti.  It filled two huge bowls, and the kids were taking such small portions.  But it turns out, they were just being polite. 🙂  Because every last noodle was eventually eaten, and most of the sauce was gone as well.

Sarah and I cleaned up together, while Frau Nicollier and most of the other kids went to fetch mats from the gym to sleep on.  I had brought Sarah one from home, and everyone was very excited to set up their beds.

She may look all ready for bed here, but it would be hours before she actually went to sleep.  First they got to watch Home Alone 2, snack on some delicious chocolate cake, giggle in the dark, and finally they fell asleep around midnight.  That is one brave teacher!

This same day, Nicholas left early in the morning for his class goodbye trip.  They rode the train to Sarnersee, south of Luzern, and spent the night in a campground right on the lake.  They spent most of the time swimming, and he came back Friday night just in time to attend Sophie’s play with us!  (Now you know why it took me so long to update my blog! Lots going on!)
