4th of July Fun!

This year we didn’t have our usual missionary guests for our 4th of July festivities.  They are both German, and probably not interested in celebrating a foreign country’s birthday. 🙂  But Chris worked from home that afternoon so he could be here with us, which was very nice.

I am not sure how hamburgers became so linked to this holiday, but it just seems wrong to eat anything else.

Also on the menu were homemade french fries, jello, a veggie tray with ranch dressing dip, potato chips, and red, white and blue drinks.

Which ended up purple, but still tasted delicious.  The second time around I managed to keep them the proper colors for longer.  It was the light cranberry juice that messed me up.  Next year I need to remember to only use the regular kind. But at least we had plenty of ice cubes thanks to the giant ice container in our new fridge/freezer. 🙂

Baby’s is still reddish, at least.

That afternoon we headed over to the park to  hang out with a large group of our American friends and continue the celebration.  The kids ran around and played, occasionally returning to the table to grab a snack before they headed out again.  It was fun, but we missed Sarah as she was at a friend’s birthday party all day.  Next year, I definitely want to organize some water games, baseball, or something.  Get the group more involved with one another.  Maybe even have the kids bring their bikes and decorate them with crepe paper like we used to do when we were little.  Doesn’t that sound fun?
