My Beautiful Creations

Thanks to free tutorials on the internet, I was inspired to make new summer Sunday dresses for the girls.  Everything in the stores is too grown up, too fancy, or too expensive.  Sophie has often lamented that all the cute clothes are only for little girls, and the clothes in her size are ugly.  So when I got an email from one of my favorite fabric stores that this line was in, I knew it was the perfect time to sew the girls something beautiful.

I loved that the fabric was available in all their favorite colors, so they coordinated, but weren’t all exactly the same.

I had always planned on making some sort of fabric flower to dress up the sash, probably a bunch of concentric circles layered on top of each other.  But when I saw this pattern on the bottom border I got a more specific idea. What if I followed the scallop pattern and make actual petals?  How would I do that?  Would it really work?  Were my lame sewing skills up to it?

Well, yes,, yes, and yes!

I just happened to have that button in my stash.  Even Nicholas agreed that it was “pretty cute”. 🙂

I love how they turned out!  I think I may have actually squealed out loud with happiness when they were finished. 🙂  And they were so easy to make, and I had so much fun, that I am now making matching dresses for my three young nieces.  I think I may even have enough material left to try my hand at matching headbands….

Well, don’t feel too bad. I read Alexander as Alexandra, so didn’t even catch it until you pointed it out. 🙂 And thank you for the compliments on the dress. I was super pleased with how they turned out.
