It finally happened.

All school year Nicholas has been outgrowing shoes faster than the little elves could make them.  In fact, I distinctly remember thinking the too-small pair was the new pair, because he had barely worn them before it was time to replace them already!  And of course, he’s in men sizes, which means his shoes are expensive.  I am always happy when I find a pair for under 60 Francs for him. sigh

Finally this last time I bought him shoes 2 sizes too big.  He complained his feet slid around in them.  Well, one of his feet slid around in them.  The left foot is more than an inch shorter than the right foot.  I have heard that lots of people’s feet are different sizes, but by so much?  Okay, all this to explain that I knew what was coming next.

All the books on puberty say that boys feet grow first, then the rest of their body catches up.  And since Nick’s feet were almost as big as his father’s, I mentally tried to prepare myself for the day my sweet, tiny firstborn was taller than I was.  I am short.  His father is tall.  It was inevitable.  Today was the day.

Chris lined us up back to back, and what do you know?  Nick has a good inch on me, at least.

As for the feet?  They are still growing, although it has slowed down some.  His right foot is officially bigger than his father’s.  At least we are both being outgrown together! 🙂
