The Cruelties of Fashion

Tuesday I caused my two oldest daughters irreparable damage and harm, both emotionally and psychologically.  There were tears enough to fill a giant bucket, there was feet stomping loud enough to raise the dead, there were doors slammed so hard the walls shook.  And the yelling, oh the yelling.  It was unceasing.  At least it seemed that way to me.  Want to know what horrible crime against humanity I committed?  What cruel and senseless act I was found guilty of?  It really is quite shocking, so I want to give you ample time to prepare yourselves.

deep breath Okay, here goes.

I gave a pair of shorts that were in Sophie’s drawer (size 142) to Alexandra since they were actually pants in her size (110).  Also, I threw away a pair of Sarah’s pants that could technically be described as “crotchless”, and therefore no longer appropriate for wear. Oh the shame.  Oh the remorse.  How could I be so cruel and uncaring? It’s a wonder I can even sleep at night.giant eyeroll

Let me go on record as defending myself by saying that the very same day, I had purchased a new pair of pants and five (5)!!!! replacement pair of shorts for the girls to share.  Really cute ones, in great colors, that would go with everything.  Plus some adorable new spring t-shirts, in all their favorite colors.  In short, I bought them almost an entirely new spring wardrobe, but heard not a word of thanks.  All they could do was bemoan the loss of holey, too tight pants.  Ay yi yi!

All we can do is hope that with time and enough tender loving care, the deep emotional scars will eventually heal, and my daughters can grow up to be well-adjusted, mostly normal, functioning adults.  I will keep you posted….

Ha ha ha! It’s all about control, isn’t it? “Those crotchless shorts are my crotchless shorts and I’ll throw them away I’m darn well good and ready!” Ha!
