Good Friday Fun

The kids had Thursday off from school, and Chris was working from home, so it was fun, relaxing first day of vacation.  The kids helped me cart down a bunch of recycling to the car, and then we went together to put it in the collection spot.  They had fun tossing the cardboard into the big containers.  And, of course, breaking glass on purpose is always a hit!  It makes such a satisfying loud noise when it crashes on the bottom of the metal container. 🙂

Since we had done our chores already, Friday we were able to relax and just enjoy the holiday.  For breakfast we made these from The Friend.  I started the dough the night before, let it rise, punched it down, and stuck it in the fridge.  In the morning, I pulled them out, let them come to room temperature, and then Sophie and I rolled them out and shaped them.  When they were finished baking, she painted them with the frosting. The unanimous verdict?  We must now have these for breakfast every Good Friday.  Although they for sure need the orange peel in the batter.  I didn’t have any, so left it out, and they were okay.  But it would have been tons better with it in.

It’s not Easter unless there are tulips on the table!Noah also made this cute chicken in Kindergarten to add to our Easter decor.

Right after lunch Chris and I changed our clothes, and then we all drove off to the temple in Bern.  The Stake was having a special Easter camp for the whole weekend.  We opted out of that but took advantage of the child care provided to attend a session.   What better way to acknowledge the anniversary of the greatest sacrifice, than go serve in the temple?  And the temple was operating at practically full capacity.  That hasn’t happened in a while, that I have seen.

We weren’t sure we would even make it in time, Suzy said there would be lots of traffic and estimated our arrival time at 14:52, which was cutting too close to attend the 15:00 session.  But we were blessed, the traffic wasn’t that bad, and we arrived at 14:40. 🙂  Whew!

We did get home kind of late, but Sophie still had time to write a note to the Easter Bunny asking him to come that night instead of Saturday.  She attached a carrot to the note with some gold cord and left it outside on the grass by the front door.  Then the kids set out their baskets in the hall and finally went to bed (and actually fell asleep) at about 9:30.

Love the bunny bread. I should make it with my kids too in the future. . . instead of paying an arm and a leg for it at the bakery!

You definitely should, Jessi! It was so easy, and Abram will definitely be able to twist the strips next year, and Chloe’ can stick on the raisin eyes and nose.
