Construction Update

One of my loyal readers, (sounds so glamorous, even though it’s only family and close friends) asked for an update on the construction across the street.  The old barn is gone.  The riding hall was deconstructed piece by piece, and moved to a new location where it was reconstructed for use by the new owner.  Then they jackhammered the old foundation up, which was very loud and very long.  Really only 2 or 3 days, but we couldn’t get away from the sound.  Even with all the windows shut, it still sounded like they were right in our living room.  All.Day.Long!

But now there is a big beautiful hole, and they can actually start building.  Well, first they had to build the crane, so they could build the buildings.  That was crazy to watch.  Here are a few shots Chris took of the whole thing. They used a smaller mobilized crane to lift up and stack the pieces of the permanent crane on to one another.  but an actual human had to climb up and do whatever it is they do to make sure they don’t come apart while in use.  That was this lucky guy’s job.  Here he is working on attaching the pieces of the long swing arm together.

I think I would rather work in the sewers than do this scary job.  Just looking at that makes my stomach queasy.

That will give you some perspective as to how high up this guy really is.  And when he’s done, he has to WALK BACK along that whole arm to get to the ladder to climb down to the ground. Fortunately, he did not fall to a grisly death.  They did however aim the arm so that it would fall directly into, and through, our building, should the crane tip over.  And then went home for the day.  Um, gee, thanks.
