Pumpkin Painting

We bought these pumpkins in plenty of time.  Way back when Jamis and Marcie first arrived.  But with all the sightseeing, and trips to Germany, we ended up painting the pumpkins the day AFTER Halloween.  But as I told the kids, they can also be used for Thanksgiving decorations!  So we left them on display until it was time to put up Christmas stuff. 🙂

That isn’t black paint on Noah’s pumpkin, that is the color it came.  He loved it.  We don’t do carved pumpkins anymore because I was the only one willing to scrape out all the seeds and slimy innards.  Plus the painted ones last longer before molding.  At least they usually do.  Poor Alexandra’s pumpkin had to get tossed into the compost the week before, it was all juicy and nasty on the bottom.  Blech!

But I had bought a butternut squash, meaning to cook it for dinner sometime, so she was able to paint that.  She was very excited!

Sarah gave hers the measles.  She doesn’t know why, the idea just popped into her head and she went with it.  Nick abstained this year.  Getting too old for all that childish stuff, I guess. sniff sniff
