Finally, it's BBQ weather!

Saturday, the first official day of spring vacation, was a gloriously warm, sunny day.  At least compared to the dark and rain filled days previous.  So, we broke out the kids' bikes and headed over to the local grill spot in the woods for lunch.

One of my plans for summer fun this year, is to take a family bike ride around Lake Constance.  I don't mean the whole lake, but plan to go for three days and see how far we get.  When the kids are a bit older we can make it a goal to go around the whole thing!  To achieve this large goal, I set several small goals.  The first being to teach Noah how to ride.  Check!  Now, to get them used to terrain that isn't paved.  Riding their bikes through the woods seemed like a good start.

They all did great!  But we learned that the younger kids all need bikes with at least 3 gears on them, to get them up the rises easier.  There aren't any major hills around Lake Constance, but with no gears at all, even a small bump is pretty hard to climb.   I had to chuckle when I heard the loud scream of thrilled terror as Noah went down the other side of the first hill, though! 🙂

There wasn't much wood available to burn, I guess they haven't been clearing out the forest lately.  But some teenagers were just leaving, and their fire was still hot, so they left it for us to use.  As soon as the sausages were done cooking, Chris started roasting marshmallows for all of us.  He was afraid the fire would go completely out if he waited for us to do it ourselves, and he knows that grilling doesn't seem complete with those gooey white morsels.  He roasted them to perfection, as well.  Golden brown on the outside, totally runny on the inside.  Thanks for a great day, family!
