Fun Homework

Sarah came home from school a few weeks ago and told me she needed to go to Volg to do her homework.  Volg is the small grocery store we have in our village.  And when I say small, I mean, most 7-11's are bigger than this place.  But it's where most local people do their shopping, and I have to say it's quite handy when I just need to pick up a couple of items.

Anyway, the problem with this homework assignment was that it meant extra work for me.  The Volg is in the village center, we live outside that.  Sarah is the only child in her class that does not live in the village directly.  So everyone else could stop in on their way home from school, do the assignment, and then continue on home.  Sarah has to catch the bus at a certain time or miss it.  So I had to drive her up there, well before school started, so she would have time to do her work.  But it worked out well in the end.  I drove everyone up to town on Friday the 12th :).  Some of the kids walked up to school right away, others came in to the store with us.

Sarah had to walk through the whole store and find 10 things that were priced for less than a Swiss Franc.  She had to write down the item name, and the price on a piece of paper, which isn't easy to do when you are 8 years old and not that coordinated and have no desk to write on. :)  Also not easy to do when you live in Switzerland, since almost nothing costs less than a Franc.

We started out in the produce section, and found a few individual fruits for less than a Franc.  Then we wandered over to the bakery area, thinking surely some of the individual rolls would fulfill the qualifications.  Only one did.  We checked out all the candy, but that too, was over the price limit.  The salesgirl walked by and whispered to us, "Try over in the drink area."  I thought it was so fun that she knew exactly what we were there for, having seen several other children already doing the same thing, and wanted to help us out.  I love living in such a small place!

She was right, we found several beverages that were under a Franc.  Sarah carefully wrote them all down, and then we paid for our purchases, you know since we happened to be there anyway. haha  I drove her up to school and then raced back home to get ready for the Valentine's Brunch with the ladies.  But that is another post.
