Imported Birthday Presents

For Sarah's birthday this year, she received two very special, imported all the way from America presents; Oma and cousin Amelia!  Oma (Chris' mom) came for Sarah's baptism, Amelia is coming to stay with us for a year so she can learn German.  Since they were arriving the morning of her birthday, Sarah went with Chris and Alexandra to pick them up from the airport.  They were a bit tired, but managed to stay awake all day and went to bed at a regular time.  Impressive!

After lunch, Sarah opened her presents and was very pleased by the scripture tote my mom had sewn for her.  She positively squealed with delight when I showed her that it was reversible.  She liked both sides so much, she couldn't decide which one to have facing in and switched it around several times during the course of the day.  It also came with a matching hymn book cover, which was handy seeing as how we gave her her own hymn book. 🙂 She had also asked for a watch, and I happened to find a really cute pink one with a cat on the watch face.  It is a real watch, not a digital, but Amelia and Oma helped teach her how to tell time, and by the next morning she was an old pro.  Of course, for the next few days, she would announce the time to anyone who happened to be in the vicinity, at irregular and sometimes inconvenient intervals.  Meaning, she would yell, "It's 9:50!" to me while I was in the kitchen, and then Chris would come into the living room and she would yell. "It's 9:52!"  All.day.long.  But it was good practice, I suppose.

We spent the day just talking and getting to know Amelia better.  We had seen her at the family reunion last August, but not really much before that, except for a few short days in Boston years ago, before Noah was even born.  Sarah and Sophie really like having a big sister, and Nick gave her his seal of approval as well.  "She likes Spore (his current favorite computer game), she likes Playmobil, she likes to read.  She likes all the same stuff I do."  End of discussion.

And I can't believe how quickly my little Sarah has grown up.  I know the photo is blurry, but you still get a sense of a how small she was.  Look at that tiny little head!  And she was already 10 days old in this photo.
