Doing what I know best

Last Wednesday was my first Relief Society activity since being called as into the presidency.  I was very nervous, because the previous ladies who had this calling always planned awesome activities and I didn't want to seem like a slacker in comparison.  True, probably only I would doing any actual comparing, but still…  So, since it was supposed to somehow commemorate the founding of the Relief Society, I decided to stick to what I know best and through an actual birthday party.

It was way fun to prepare, especially the little gifts for inside the pinata.  I didn't want to do just candy, because honestly, we're all grown ups, we don't need a bunch of candy.  But I couldn't let them work so hard to break open a pinata and find it empty.  I found some really inexpensive notepads and made some cute covers for them with all my scrapbooking stuff, then added a pen, a few pieces of hard candy, stuck it all in a cello bag and it was done.  The ladies really seemed to enjoy them, and it only took me a few hours to do everything.  Totally worth it.

We also played musical chairs, and this hilarious balloon relay.  Everyone was laughing and having a good time, which was the intended goal, although I did have to turn a blind eye to a bit of cheating. 😉 I am very lucky to live in a ward where everyone is just used to pitching in to help, so I had no problem finding ladies to bring the food, and the clean up was quickly taken care of as well.  I am so relieved to have it behind me, and so is my family.  Fortunately, I don't have to worry about the next one for at least 6 more weeks. haha.

Sounds like a fun activity! Good job! I'm sure you will do a wonderful job in your calling. I just found out I'm being released from the Young Women's and I'm very sad about that. I'm sure the next thing will be just as hard to leave when the time comes, though.
