Herbstferien!

We are now in our second week of fall vacation for the kids.  I love it when the kids have vacation.  People are always surprised to hear this.  I guess, perhaps, they don't look forward to vacation with their own kids.  But see, I like children.  I genuinely enjoy them.  It's why I had five of them, after all.  Plus, there are no schedules during vacation.  I don't mind the imposed order, really, but it is fun and relaxing to have a break from it every once in a while.  I get to sleep in during vacation, make lunch an hour later during vacation, and get projects done around the house during vacation.

The bigger kids are home to entertain and play with the younger ones, leaving me free to finally 1) put up Halloween decorations, 2)paint frames and then use them to hang up pictures we bought on our past trips, 3) make cute purse cards for a friend, 4) and clean out all the toys in the kids' rooms and the playroom upstairs.  We filled three trash bags full of bits of paper, and broken bits of toys, and all the little trinkets they get in those chocolate eggs (Kinderueberaschungen).  Plus, we now have a huge pile of stuff to take to the dump when our town has it's collection day in two weeks.  I have even had time to start a really cute Halloween cross-stitch.  Life is definitely good.  Today I am sanding our shoe cabinet to remove the old varnish, and then I will stain it black to match our piano and new desk that are in the reading room.  Then all the furniture in there will either be black or white, and it will actually look "put together".  Did I mention how awesome I think school vacation is already? 🙂 And when they go back next week, there will only be 8 more weeks until the next school holidays for Christmas.  I really like year round school.  Best.invention.ever!
