"The world turns round like a merry-go-round"

Sunday afternoon I got to share a favorite childhood memory with my children.  After we visited the temple grounds in Atlanta, we stopped by the LDS bookstore that was just down the street.  We pretty much cleaned the place out. haha, no, but it is amazing how much more appealing those kinds of products are when you live very, very far away from Utah.  Instead of being obnoxious, cheesy, or roll-your-eyes lame, it's suddenly a great fun way to help your kids learn to love the Gospel.  We picked up Moroni ties for the boys, scripture stickers for Nick and my very favorite, the DVD versions of "My Turn on Earth" and "Saturday's Warrior", along with accompanying soundtrack cd's.

I decided to save "Saturday's Warrior" for another time, but we put in "My Turn on Earth" in that horribly hard time of Sunday afternoon when lunch is over, it's much too soon for dinner, but the kids are tired of playing with each other and starting to beat each other instead.  It worked like a charm.  They were completely mesmerized during the whole thing.  They laughed at the funny parts, were worried in the sad parts, and Sarah hated the part when the voice from the sky calls out "Barbara, time to come home!"  She said it sounded really scary.

Watching the play, of course prompted conversation about my memories associated with it.  I told them how I got the book for my 8th birthday and how I just loved it and the illustrations of the big(bug)-eyed kids.  That I got to see the play twice when we lived in San Diego, and how I almost acted in the play myself.  I never was really clear on why we practiced for months and then didn't actually perform the play.  That was kind of a bummer, actually.  Anyway, it was really fun to share yet another piece of my small self with my children.

The movie was such a hit, that there were requests to watch it during the week.  I quickly vetoed that, because I need to save SOMETHING for next week's Sunday afternoon, otherwise the wild animals might eat each other!
