Tuesday, June 10

Yes, just a little slow in updating the blog.  That's always how it happens, when you have time to write, there is nothing to write about because you aren't doing anything.  Fun times, no time to get to the computer.  Oh well, for posterity's sake we will take a short trip back in time to last Tuesday.

It was a gorgeous day, nice and sunny, even hot.  The forecast said it would rain the rest of the week, so I really made an effort to get the kids outside while we could.  The girls always have German class on Tuesday afternoons, so instead of having them walk to our normal pickup spot, I had them meet us at the playground by the school instead.  Noah and Alexandra and I were already there, having a grand old time.  We discovered that Alexandra loves the swing, but only when it goes kind of slow.  Sophie swooped her pretty high in the air, and Baby didn't even have enough air to cry, she just kind of sat there in shock with her mouth hanging open.  Poor thing.  We slowed the swing down and she went right back to laughing and giggling.  She sat in there for a good half an hour grinning the whole time.

There is also a nice little fountain there where the kids cooled off.  They didn't like sharing the water with the dog, but I thought it was hilarious.  He would jump up, scare all the kids, take a few drinks, stare at them cowering for a bit, then run off again.  He did it several times.  The dog belongs to a boy in the girls' kindergarten who was also at the playground with his parents.  I knew the dog was harmless, and the owners' were right there, but still the girls kept wanting the mom to put the dog on a leash.  I think it is good that they have a slightly toned down fear of dogs.  Respect, yes, all out fear, no.

We all got soaking wet thanks to Noah's prodigious use of his thumb against the fountain outlet.  But since it was so hot out, no one really cared.  When it was time for Nick to be out of school, we went to pick him up.  Turns out he wanted to go to a friends house, so he walked home with him.  I meant to pick him up later that evening, but the missionaries were coming for dinner and it took longer than expected, as usual.  So he ended up walking home, and arrived just before our guests did!   We have a new Elder from Riverside, California, so he really appreciated my chicken enchiladas and chips and homemade guacamole. 🙂

By the way, homemade corn tortillas made with fresh chicken broth ROCK!  They are so good, you can actually eat them plain, not something I ever cared to try with the storebought kind.  Thanks again, Tanya for showing me how to make them.
