I don't want to be a pioneer!

Yesterday I got some very bad news.  My dishwasher hadn't been working properly for a couple of days.  Our landlord came by on Wednesday to see if he could fix it himself, after Chris tried to fix it on Tuesday with no luck.  He was also unsuccessful, so he called in the big guns.  The repairman showed up at 7:15 am! and I staggered to the door to let him in.  To be fair, he did call the evening before and tell me he would come anytime after 7:00 am, but I figured that meant sometime in the morning.  No, he really meant 7:00 am.  Good think I had on some nice pajamas.  Anyway, he pulled the whole thing out and saw that the tube where the water flows in was totally full of calcium build up.  He had to take it in to change out the part.  And it won't be back until Monday at the earliest.  Oh whoa is me.

You see, I had not given up hope that it would be a simple thing to repair and that my dishwasher would be back up and running very soon.  So I had been rinsing the dishes and stacking them in neat little piles waiting for their turn to get put in the dishwasher.  (It was already full when we discovered it's refusal to work.)  I had to, of course, empty it out, so the repairman could carry it single handedly down all our stairs :0!  This, added to the piles I had already made, was quite a daunting sight when I realized I was going to have to now hand wash all these dishes.  Wah!

It took me literally until lunchtime to wash them all.  I had to keep stopping to feed the baby, or change the baby, or hold her a while, because she doesn't like to be left on her own too long.  And then, of course, I was also nursing Sarah who has the flu.  She is home again today, but feeling better.  Noah, however, is now very sick.  At the beginning of the week it was Chris.  Boy, when it's finally my turn, I am gonna milk it for all I can.  Anyway, I am now washing all dishes right when they get dirty to prevent this huge a pile up from happening again.  Also, I had Chris stop on his way home from work and buy paper plates.  Just because the pioneers didn't have those handy inventions, doesn't mean I shouldn't indulge in them.

This is the sad gaping hole where the dishwasher used to be.  Each time one of the kids would walk into the kitchen for the first time, they would do this huge double take.  So hilarious.  It really does look a bit odd, doesn't it?  I hope our dishwasher makes it home safely soon.  He was a much cherished and loved member of the family. And the dishwashing soap makes my hands itch!

There really isn't a dull moment there is there. I'm so sorry to hear about your computer issues — not fun at all 🙁 I hope your dear dishwasher makes it home safely….it's sad to imagine life without that handy tool. The little tale about Sarah was a little frightening, I can imagine how you felt. YIKES! 🙂 Oh, and I love your stories by the way:)
