Verkehrshaus with Papa!

The Monday after Easter is an official holiday here.  No school, no work, and most of the shops are closed.  But museums are open, so we went to the Transportation Museum in Luzern again, only this time we brought Chris!

The place is so big, that we were able to spend another 4 hours there and only saw one exhibit that we had already seen.  This time we started off in the train part, and then slowly worked our way over to the car building.

The kids were able to slide under a train and see what it looks like down there.

Very cool, even if it was a bit scary at first.

We got to walk through an actual engine room, and see a real steam engine at work.  You could tell that streetcars were formerly reserved only for the wealthy, the interiors were very plush!

Over in the car building,

there was a demonstration going on of what happens when you are in a mild car accident.  They got people from the audience to sit in the car, very well strapped in, and then ran into a barrier at about 15 kmph.  Not very fast at all, but you could still see their heads jerk forward a bit.

The kids liked the play area, naturally, and we all had fun taking a vision test.  Up on the wall, there were lots of different examples of motor vehicles through the years.  Some were old fashion delivery trucks, others were more modern sports cars.  There was even a '64 Corvette, Beautiful, just Beautiful!

We headed to the ship building, which we had visited on our earlier trip.  Sarah really loves the simulation rowing race, and waited very patiently to take a turn.  Everyone was really excited to show Chris the marble track on the top floor,

and hidden behind it we discovered a fun exhibit we had completely missed before.  It was a giant map of Switzerland, and there was a suspended walkway above it, so you could look down on the whole thing at once.

For a close up view, you went down some stairs, donned some special Swiss slippers and walked out onto the world!  The kids loved trying to figure out where our town was, and there were cutouts hanging on the wall, that you could match up with the map on the floor.  Super fun, and educational to boot!

It was the perfect ending to a fantastic Easter weekend.  I love having relaxing time with my family!
