Doctors and Diagnosi

Sunday evening we noticed that Alexandra seemed kind of warm. She also had this strange, bright red, really hot spot on one of her cheeks.  As the night wore on, the spot got redder, although her fever went down some.  In the morning, it had spread to her chin and eyelid and was quite nasty looking.  Chris urged me to take her to the doctor, but I really didn't have time.  Monday is laundry day, and then in the afternoon the second set of stamp ladies came over to make some cards for their birthday calendar boxes.

Sarah has ballet, though, on Monday afternoons in the same town where our doctor is, so I decided on the spur of the moment to just swing by after dropping her off. I have never done such a thing before.  No call beforehand, I wasn't even sure they would be open, but I thought, since I was so close it was worth a shot.  Sarah's ballet teacher ended up being sick,so she came with me to the doctors and was seriously a perfect angel.  She just sat looking quietly at books the whole 45 minutes we ended up having to wait.  Still, I am so glad we went. The red cheek turned out to be infected eczema, so we got a cream for that.  Apparently, since we are such an "allergic" family, eczema is one of the things we are also susceptible to have.  Great.

To rule out any serious sickness, since she did have a fever, they took a little blood.  Alexandra just sat still as a mouse the whole time.  She watched fascinated as the lady cleaned her little finger, put the little pen-thing with the needle in it on her finger, didn't even flinch when the puncture was made, and seemed more interested in playing with the tube that was collecting her blood than actually worrying about what it was coming out of her body.  She especially had fun grabbing at the bandage she got afterwards.  Much difference experience than the hysterics her older siblings had when they had to give blood for the allergy tests.

Turns out there is no infection in her blood, also no iron.  Her reading was 8.5, 10 to 100 being considered normal, although obviously, they like you closer to 100 than 10.  She got a prescription for some iron drops, and Mommy decided maybe she oughta finish off her iron pills she got on leaving the hospital. Poor little thing has been struggling through life with anemia!  So glad I stopped by, and so glad that they squeezed me in.  Mwah to Dr. Kramreiter and Nurse Meier!

It has now been a few days and her cheek looks great, by the way.  I hate when she has stuff on her face, I want everyone to ooh and aah over her, and that is hard to do when she looks like a lizard baby. :(  For that reason, I will not be posting any pics.
