Yesterday evening Sarah had her violin concert. Sophie was unable to attend, as she was at a slumber birthday party, but the rest of us all came to support her. It was a very good concert. Even Nick said “it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be” which is high praise from him. There were only a few screeches, and some of the pieces were very complicated indeed. And although they weren’t perhaps performed flawlessly, you could tell that a lot of effort and practice went into them. I especially enjoyed seeing the kids’ different personalities shine through their musical numbers.
One little girl took a huge bow at the end, very cute! Another girl had a saucy grin when she plucked the final note of her song, which got a huge laugh from the crowd. And one boy played so beautifully, I actually got tears in my eyes. The notes were all right on, he played it with feeling, and it was the only time all night my ears weren’t in any pain at all. 🙂
Sarah did a great job, and has really made progress on her violin. One of the nice things about this concert, is that we all got to hear how great she sounds when she is really trying. She doesn’t always give the best effort in practice at home, so it’s hard to gauge if she’s improving at all or not. And she played that last piece completely from memory. She extra did NOT look at her notes the whole time. Good job, Sarah!
