All last week the kids took turns being sick. Not the nice kind of sick, where they have a fever, lay on the couch and quietly drink tea all day, while watching movies, and occasionally nodding off. No, the gross kind of sick, where they throw up all night (and day) long, and then when that is finally over with, run to the bathroom every 10 minutes so it can escape out the other end. Pretty gross to read about, I know. Imagine me living it for 7 days straight! Ugh! And of course, somewhere in the middle, I caught it myself. Awesome!
To help keep my mind off all the nastiness, I decided to work on some fun Valentine stuff while the kids were content to lay on the couch watching movies. First I finished this heart pillow. I saw one similar in a boutique a few years ago, and was always sad I hadn’t bought it. But then I decided I could probably make one myself. I dug through all my fabric scraps, and was able to find enough variety to get the look I was going for. The only thing I messed up on, was washing it after I attached the buttons. The pretty red mother of pearl one lost some of it’s color in the machine. 🙁 Still, I am very pleased with it, and am thinking of making a couple smaller companion pillows out of some of the leftover material.
For the past couple of years we have had a Valentine’s brunch with some of the ward ladies that live near each other. This year I get to host it, and I am having tons of fun making decorations and treats for my friends. Look at this adorable little army of girls! Can’t wait to fill them up with goodies for the ladies. And yes, that is only a small sampling of my punches in the background. Some women collect shoes or purses, I collect stamps and punches. 🙂
These are the plates I bought at the Swiss Goodwill, plus a few of my old ones, all decorated up pretty for the brunch. They aren’t completely finished, because I can’t decide exactly what I am going to put in between the hearts. The pink porcelain pen I had is the wrong shade and totally clashes with the table runners I am sewing. So now I need to come up with a new plan.
And at night when I watch tv with Chris, I have been crocheting tons of these flowers. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them when I started, but knew I would find something eventually, so I just forged ahead. I think I have pretty much decided on decorating a heart-shaped wreath with for my door, but can’t decide on what to put in the flower center; buttons, rhinestones, or little hearts punched out of cardstock. Will post again when I have decided. 🙂
And that’s how I beat the stuck-at-home-with-sick-kids blues!
