The Christmas season started off in a big way this year. The Primary presidency held a special Christmas activity on Wednesday, Dec. 1, for all the kids. I dropped them off at church and then went shopping with my friend, C. down the street at the mall. Then we went back and picked them up when it was over. They were so excited, and all talking at once, about all the great, fun things they had done. I took that as proof they had a good time. 🙂
They sang some Christmas songs, decorated candles using cutouts made from thin, colored wax, and Samichlaus even came. Although, the kids figured out pretty quick it wasn’t the real one since he was wearing regular shoes and jeans under his cloak. Still, they had fun talking to him and hearing him say all the good things they had done all year. The thing they were most excited about, though, was the gingerbread houses.
I don’t know if the ladies in the Presidency baked all these cakes, or bought them, but it was definitely a lot of work, regardless. They weren’t actual gingerbread, they were honey cakes, cut into the shape of little houses. The kids were then given what looked like an entire candy factory of choices to decorate them with.
The candle in the background is one of the ones they made at the activity. We burned them all during the month of December.
It was really rather a genius idea, as the frosting and candy kept the cake nice and moist for almost the entire week they nibbled on these things.
And the tiny size was just right, as well. In fact, I liked it so much, I made our own gingerbread houses about that size later in the month.
Thank you, leaders for helping the kids get so excited for Christmas so early!
As for me and C.’s shopping trip, well, we may have had as much fun as the children. We giggled our way through three different stores, actually found some things we needed, and gazed admiringly at some gorgeous things we just wanted. 🙂 It was a very, very nice afternoon for all!
