Indoor Picnics Rule

My kids often start a conversation with the phrase, “Remember when we did ——–?  When can we do that again?”  This time it was, “Remember when we had a picnic in our living room for someone’s birthday?  When can we do that again?”  They love when I answer, “Today!”

That night, instead of setting the table, we set the blanket.

It was the usual nighttime fare of bread, meat, cheese and vegetables, but to make it more picnicky, I set out a bag of potato chips.

That just sent them over the edge into giddy happiness.

I seriously love how easy kids are to please sometimes.

There is something about sitting on the floor with food that makes us all talk more, laugh more, and generally enjoy the whole meal more.

But I worry if we do it too often, the novelty will disappear and it won’t be a source of so much happiness anymore.  So, even though part of me wants to make it a regular, monthly thing, I think I will hold off and just do it once in a while.

When it was all over, we carefully folded up the blanket, carried it to the window and dumped all the crumbs outside for the birds to eat. 🙂  Then I washed the blanket, to remove any hidden food.  Don’t want to risk funky mold or fungus growing on it.  It was hand-crocheted by my amazing sister-in-law Kathy, and we want to keep it for many more years.
