Mother's Day!

This year was an extra special Mother's day, as I was actually able to be with my Mother on the day, rather than just calling her.  That hasn't happened for at least 12 years!  We decided to celebrate our day by having Sophie cook  her salmon recipe, and Sarah made rice pilaf.  Of course they were supervised. ;)  And for dessert, we made cheesecake.  Mmmhhhmmm!!!

As per tradition, Chris took the kids outside to pick me a gorgeous bouquet of wildflowers.

They filled an entire bucket with blossoms in a rainbow of colors; yellow, white, purple, blue, deep red, and pink.  And this year they did a great job of leaving the stem long enough that I could put them in a vase.

Actually, there were so many, I think I filled 4 vases with them all.  And of course, there were some beautiful roses from church that my mom and I added to one of the wildflower vases.   We ended up with quite the colorful arrangement.

It is true that the kind of mother you have, totally affects the kind of mother you yourself become.   Some things you do because she did them, some things you don't do because she did them :), but there is no getting away from her influence.  I am so thankful that I have a mother who always did her best for us. And who's influence was mostly positive.  (I won't gush and say she is the most perfect mother ever, because something else I learned from her was that that is completely unrealistic and just makes other mother's feel guilty/bad/not good enough.)  Wouldn't change her for anybody else, that is for sure.

Also, for a special treat, I bought myself a Mother's day gift.  I have been looking for the perfect Mother's necklace/ring/pin/something ever since Noah was born.  Since back then I thought I was done having kids. ha! I had been leaning towards a necklace, with maybe little girl and boy charms with their birthstones in their bodies.  But then I decided that was too little kid looking.  And I am an adult. 🙂

I was looking at one of the crafting blogs I stalk and she featured a site that made custom jewelry, and the samples were quite lovely.  I went over to check it out, and instantly realized that what I wanted was what she was selling. haha!  She had these little discs with the children's names stamped on them, and then you could put a birthstone charm on top of the disc.  Perfect!  But she had them as necklaces, and I was afraid that 5 little discs would end up just squishing each other, making none of them discernable.  I didn't think that would look very nice.

Did some more looking around her site, and came across a really cute bracelet with a heart for a clasp.  Instantly had an epiphany.  Could she put the discs with the birthstones on the bracelet, essentially making them into charms?  I wrote her an email and she wrote back that charms were not currently available.  Um yeah, I didn't ask you to make new charms, I asked you to put the existing ones on the bracelet, instead of the necklace.  Wouldn't do it.  Defeated and frustrated, I continued my search on Etsy.  There are seriously tons of ladies selling homemade jewelry on there.  Some of it looks like something I could make myself.  I even began to entertain thoughts of just buying the equipment necessary TO make it myself.  But it would all have to come from the States, and what a hassle.  Plus, I didn't want it to look like I made it myself.  I wanted it to look nice!

Then I found her. Noelcharms.  She had a very similar style to the first website I went to that wouldn't work with me.  I cautiously sent her an email, asking if she did custom work and explained what I would like.  She wrote back that she did custom work all the time, and could totally do what I wanted.  She did a fantastic job on my mother's charm bracelet.  I wear it all the time, and absolutely love it.  I would highly recommend her if you ever want a beautiful, unique piece of jewelry that doesn't break the budget.
I would post a picture, but I don't want you all copying my bracelet.  haha!  Happy Mother's Day!
