On Wednesday, the kids and I attended an Easter Egg hunt put on by Julie S. We are very lucky, that almost year since we have lived here, some one from the ward has been willing to organize an egg hunt for any of the kids who wanted to come. In years past, it was Julie R. who did the planning. Maybe it has to do with the name? :) At any rate, we are just happy to be able to go, the kids always have a blast and come home with some fun treats. The past two years Julie S. has also planned fun games for the kids. An egg toss, using actual eggs!, an egg relay, and a sack race. Of course, Nick and his friend Alens weren't too interested in these things once they caught sight of the giant chess board the park had. They both took a chess class last year at school, and enjoy every opportunity to practice their skills.
I was still hiding the treats I had brought for the kids when they started the hunt for the little kids. So I wasn't able to help Alexandra. Fortunately, our neighbor Steven took her hand and started helping her look for candy without even being asked. By the time I caught up to them with her basket, his hands were pretty full. I told him to keep most of it, she had the most fun finding it, she didn't need to actually eat it all. She still ended up with quite a good sized stash. This came in handy, since Nick and Alens missed most of the egg hunt as well. We took some of Alexandra's candy and gave it to them. Sweet Sophie also took some of her candy out of her basket, unasked I might add, and hid it for them in the grass so they could have something to find.
The other big kids were all really good about letting the little ones find things first, and as far as I noticed no one got really greedy. There were also no tears except by those who were not allowed to eat everything in their baskets at one time. :) I am so glad my kids have such a good group of kids to do these sorts of things with. Oh, and any Easter Egg Hunt is infinitely better under blue skies and a shining sun. Last year there was actually snow falling while the kids were hunting for their treats.
